Manual HR is not only Excel. It is a paper attendance register, leave approved in a group chat, and payroll typed into a bank list. Each handoff loses context.
An HRMS does not remove judgement. Managers still approve leave. HR still checks a strange overtime spike. The difference is that the decision is stored next to the person and the period.
If your headcount is tiny and stable, manual processes can be honest. The break point is usually multiple approvers, devices at the door, or a finance team that wants a posted period.
